文件名: You Don't Need Cash to Show Appreciation to Your Employees

文件说明: Getting a mug with the company logo on it probably isn’t enough to stop an unhappy employee from quitting. But experts agree that small tokens of recognition presented with the right message and style can make employees feel appreciated—and underscore a company’s values.
“Really powerful recognition has to do with the feeling and energy behind it, not the cost,” says Alan G. Robinson, co-author of Ideas Are Free (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2004), a book highlighting successful businesses that use nonmonetary recognition to reward employees who come up with innovative ideas.
For example, at a Toyota plant in India that Robinson visited, walls and machinery were “festooned with stickers” to indicate where employees had suggested innovative ideas, The stickers were cheap, distinctive and included the name of the suggester on each one. Those stickers served as their own reward for employees, Robinson says, because employees could walk by the visual reminders, point and say, “That’s my idea.”
